Thankfulness

I have read lots of happiness studies recently. There are many very interesting studies and many countries are starting to do happiness statistics for their populations. One of the things that I have noticed about happiness is that it is very relative yet predictable enough that some scientist have a mathematical formula for it. This is because a person’s happiness is strongly dependant on a person’s expectations of life. For instance, a person from a very poor background will be much happier with less than a person from a very rich background. A business man who makes more than his peers will be happier than one who makes less than his peers. A person who has more friends then they feel is normal is happier than a person who has less friends. One thing that I see happen, though, is that our expectations continue to change. A person who is constantly comparing themselves to those who have more tends to never have enough and those who appreciates all they have without comparing tends to progressively feel happier. This where I see thankfulness being so important. So here are some things I am thankful for:

1. My children, both the living and the ones in heaven

2. My husband

3. My health

4. More than enough food to eat

5. Clothes

6. Shelter

7. Friends

8. Family

9. A computer

10. My adventures and travels

11. A home

12. A garden

13. The future

14. Coffee

15. Dark chocolate

16. The rain

17. The sun

18. Our cat

19. A car

20. Divine grace
